In Nagoya, you only get one chance a month to throw out something big 🐧

I decided to put out oversized rubbish for the first time. And it turns out you only get a chance to put out oversized rubbish about once a month.

Today, the 12th of September, I wanted to throw away a broken microwave, so I tried to apply for an oversized rubbish collection. The earliest date was the 14th of October, more than a month away.

So maybe that is why you sometimes see oversized rubbish dumped in the street. You really do have to apply early.

The way you submit it is online. You apply from the city's oversized rubbish site, and they issue you something like a reference number. You write that number down, and on the day you were given, you tape the number details onto the rubbish and put it out, and the collection company takes it away.

By the way, one microwave was about 500 yen.

Looking at the other prices, a double mattress was the most expensive at about 2,500 yen, but most things, a window screen for example, could go out for about 300 yen. It turns out almost anything big can be thrown away for under 1,000 yen.
