Nagoya is famous for Yaba-ton miso katsu, but I am from Nagoya and have never eaten it 🐷

In Japan, each area has its own famous food.

The easiest ones: for Osaka, takoyaki.

For Fukuoka, ramen.

For Sendai, beef tongue.

So what about Nagoya?

For Nagoya, it is this "Yaba-ton" miso katsu.

It seems Nagoya is famous for dishes that use miso.

Amazing, right?

Just a shop that serves this miso katsu can build a whole building.

It seems it is a place where people who come to Nagoya for sightseeing often come to eat.

But I am from Nagoya, and I have still never eaten Yaba-ton.

There are places like that, right?

Tourists often go to eat there, but local people do not really go.

Unless it is a special day, we do not go to eat Yaba-ton very often.

But Yaba-ton is very popular.

My image is that there is always a long line.

I think it was so popular that even if you just walk in and say "I want to eat Yaba-ton now," they will not just seat you.

It is a shop so famous that people say, "Nagoya means Yaba-ton."

Why is it called "Yaba-ton"?

The place where this building stands is an area called "Yabacho" in Nagoya.

So maybe it is "Yaba," and "ton" is "ton" as in pork?

Sorry, I do not know the origin of the name at all.

But I kind of understand it as "Yaba" because it is near Yabacho Station.

A pig that looks like a sumo wrestler is its trademark.
