The Yamanote Line trains in Tokyo are really long, over 2 times longer than the Nagoya subway 🚃

In Tokyo, I rode a train called the Yamanote Line.

There was something that surprised me.

Tokyo trains are really long.

If a Nagoya train is about 50 meters long,

I felt a Tokyo train was about 3 times that.

I felt it was about 150 meters.

• A Yamanote Line train has 11 cars. Each car is about 20 meters, so it is about 220 meters in total.
• The Nagoya subway (Higashiyama Line) has 6 cars. Each car is about 15 meters, so it is about 90 meters in total.
• So the Yamanote Line was more than 2 times as long as the Nagoya subway.

It was even longer than my "about 150 meters."

I thought such long trains might only be in Tokyo.

Are these Tokyo trains the longest in the world?

If you made a ranking of long trains, I wondered where JR trains like the Yamanote Line would rank.

When I looked it up, there were even longer ones.

• Even just in Tokyo, lines like the Tokaido Line have 15 cars, about 300 meters.
• The Shinkansen has 16 cars, about 400 meters.
• In the world, there are also long-distance trains that run with more than 20 cars.

The Yamanote Line was not the longest in the world.

But a 220-meter train goes around and around, 1 every 2 or 3 minutes.

That alone made me think that Tokyo really is amazing.
