On the first day in Malaysia, I could not use ChatGPT and Claude 🐧 Both ChatGPT and Claude said something like "your region is not supported."

Oh my gosh. I panicked. That is because my travel plan was already in the project folder of those AI apps.

The cause was maybe the SIM card. The SIM card for Malaysia that I bought on Amazon before the trip seems to be related to a Chinese internet company, so maybe my IP address looked like a Chinese one. I am not sure.

So I thought, if I cannot use American AI, then let's use Chinese AI. I installed DeepSeek and asked it how to use Claude and ChatGPT in this area. It told me many things, like first check the VPN and the proxy.

It Worked

Thanks to DeepSeek, I could use Claude and ChatGPT. It is kind of funny.

Actually, with the Kuala Lumpur airport Wi-Fi, Claude and ChatGPT worked normally. So it was not a Malaysia problem, but a problem only with my SIM card. Malaysia is a country where you can use Claude and ChatGPT.

In the end, I stopped using that SIM card, and I used Rakuten Mobile, the one I use in Japan, as it is with international roaming.

If you want to use American AI like Claude or ChatGPT abroad, international roaming from a Japanese carrier is perfect.

To be honest, maybe because of the media, I somehow felt uneasy about AI from China, and I had not used it much.

But DeepSeek was really, really good. It helped me so much 😊. It was a good AI.
