Even the veterans work with the manual open 🐧

Honestly, at first I thought it might be easy, because it is a temp job.

But I was very wrong. There is a monstrous amount to remember.

Equipment model numbers, types of service and network, telling alarms apart, isolating faults, arranging field engineers, working with other departments, checking with other carriers, reporting after recovery.

If you tried to manage all of that with just a paper notebook, you would definitely break.

Actually, even the senior people who have done this for years basically work while looking at the manual.

It is not an amount you can memorise one by one.

So the more veteran someone is, the more neatly they keep a list of shortcuts that gets them to the manual in the fewest steps.

Rather than remembering everything, keeping the information you need within reach. I think that is the more important skill on this floor.
