McDonald's has company-run stores and franchise stores, and they feel different 🏪

McDonald's in Japan actually has 2 kinds of stores.

"Company-run stores" run by the McDonald's company itself, and "franchise stores" run by owners.

There is no clear rule to tell them apart, but I have a rough image.

Company-run stores are often inside city buildings or inside stations.

I feel franchise stores are often in the suburbs, as a building with only McDonald's.

The store I worked at was a company-run store.

Looking back, my impression is that it was strict in many ways.

Especially, the training on how to speak was serious.

It seems the area manager was strict too, and the store manager and managers always worked very hard.

On the other hand, when I went to help at a franchise store, the atmosphere was quite different.

The way of speaking was not so strict, and the rules for hair and nails were looser.

Overall, it had a relaxed feeling that was different from the company-run store.

If you want a relaxed part-time job, maybe a franchise is more fun😅

But company-run stores have good points too.

They are strict about numbers and goals, like sales, serving speed, survey satisfaction, and the number of complaints, so I could work like it was a game.

When we reached a goal, the reward and sense of achievement were big, and it was easy to get into the zone while working.
