In the Philippines, scolding someone in front of others is a taboo 🐧

When I was about to start working in the Philippines, the training had a story that shocked me.

In the Philippines, there is apparently a strong culture, or rather a taboo, against scolding someone in front of other people.

Hurting the other person's pride is apparently a seriously rude thing to do.

Learning that as a culture, as a Japanese person, I thought it was a really good culture to have.

And it's true, walking around in the Philippines, I hardly ever saw two people shouting at each other.

I never saw anyone blowing up at a shop over a complaint, and at work I never saw a Filipino person getting seriously angry either.

In Japan, younger people don't seem to get that angry, but you do sometimes see older Japanese men getting angry in places like restaurants.

Staying calm with the person in front of you, never blowing up, and getting through each day with peaceful, constructive relationships.

I thought that was a really good thing.
